Manipur is a spectacular and unexplored gem of North East India. With Imphal as capital, Manipur is classified among one of India’s most beautiful locations to enjoy wild scenery, lush valleys, and perfectly blue lakes.
Even though there were many restrictions due to Covid-19 across Manipur and other northeast states, I still decided to visit Manipur to fulfill my urge.

Places I visited in Manipur
I stayed in Manipur for 3 days. In my brief time, I visited 4 places. The first one on my list was the iconic women’s market Ima Keithel. Every seller is a woman here, selling everything from handicraft to fish, and from exotic fruits to lotus flowers. The market was a riot of colors with the noise of haggling shoppers and the sound of loud traffic in the background.
The second destination was Kangla fort which is at the heart of Imphal. This is a historical and archaeological site that is still dotted with several shrines. A visit to Kangla filled me with a brief history and culture of Manipur.
The third destination was Lokatak lake. it was unlike any place I have ever witnessed. The panoramic view of the mountains and deep blue water with floating islands all around was something I had never experienced. I’d say the trip to Manipur is incomplete without visiting Loktak lake.
The last destination was Cheirao Ching, one of the most popular and easily accessible hills. Reaching the summit was fairly easy, especially with a nicely paved path all up to the top. The hill offers a beautiful 360-degree view of Imphal city and I was able to witness amazing sunrise over the city.
I know that there are yet many amazing places to explore in Manipur and I look forward to the day I visit again.
