Called as “City of Lakes”, “Venice of the East”, “the Kashmir of Rajasthan”, “the Most Romantic City of India” and “The city of Dawn”, Udaipur city is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Rajasthan.
Expectation and Reality
Being the first city in Rajasthan I was visiting, I had pictures of the desert flashing through my mind. But instead, Udaipur welcomed me with its charming beauty of lakes.

Not just the city of lakes
My fascination with Udaipur didn’t end with the lakes. It has a blend of everything to make you feel like you belong there. The age-old forts with mesmerizing views, the lush hills of the Aravalli, temples that surround you with a vibe of spirituality and rooftop restaurants with great views are few to list out.

The soothing walk
Even though there are many tourist destinations to visit, what I like most is the walk around the city just to realize how full of life the place is.
You could see the life of people around the lake, the folks of birds flying all around, the beautiful architectural buildings shining in the sunlight, or just sit beside the lake and enjoy the lake changing as the sun goes down.

Sunset in the white city
Enjoying the sunset in Udaipur is the perfect way to end a day in the white city.
You could choose to see the panoramic view of the city and surrounding landscapes with setting sun casting its magical golden glow over the city from monsoon palace, or take a small trek to Badi lake to see an unobstructed view of the sun setting behind the mountains and the sky transforms into a plethora of color. Another option is to visit the nearest lake or a rooftop restaurant and see the lake and the rooftops twinkle like gold.

The sweet spot
Despite of the over-tourism, Udaipur has earned a sweet spot in my heart. This magical city of love and lakes has its own charm that attracts me towards it. I feel I can spend several days in here with its relaxing and laid-back vibe and never get tired of it.
